Call for Submissions: New Category

2018 has been an impactful year! It’s hard to believe we’re already at the halfway point. Nevertheless, this is a great time for us to pause and examine where we are in this moment. We want to thank everyone for supporting our literary journal. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the generous help of our staff, readers, contributing writers, and supporters. We’re several months away from our seven-year anniversary and this journey has been nothing short of phenomenal.

We have incurred a few changes with regards to our submission guidelines. As such, we are issuing an updated call for submissions. Contributing writers will now receive print copies of our literary journals. Additionally, we are now accepting cover art submissions.

We look forward to continuing with our efforts to bring our readers more of the literary material they enjoy. In addition to our journal, we’re also accepting requests for blog content. We’re looking for interviews, book reviews, guest posts, and author spotlights.

Call for Submissions

2016 has been an amazing year! We want to thank everyone for supporting our literary journal, contests, and blog. We know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from us but we are back from our brief hiatus and we are excited to share some great news with our readers. We will be releasing Volume XIX and XX of the Torrid Literature Journal before 2016 is over. Each volume contains fresh new poems, stories, and interviews. In Volume XX, the 2016 winners of our annual literary contest will be revealed.

Additionally, we will begin accepting submissions for another anthology of Christian poetry to be published on August 1, 2017 under our Gateway Literature imprint.

As we wrap up 2016 and prepare for 2017, we are issuing an updated call for submissions. Our first volume of the Torrid Literature Journal in 2017 will be a special five-year anniversary edition. Send us your best work.

Readers Are Counting On You

“Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.” -E. L. Doctorow

You have a story inside of you. However, if you’re like most emerging writers you may feel a bit of fear when it comes to creating your first draft. Many people feel inundated by the entire literary process, which spans from writing and editing to publishing and marketing. However, before you can worry about the future steps, you have to get past phase one: writing your story.

Write one word and then another. Repeat this process. Before you know it, you will have a sentence, a paragraph, a chapter, and eventually an entire story. You can do this. You can write a story. More importantly, you can tell your story in your own way.  Move past your inhibitions and tell your story the way you were always meant to.  Readers are counting on you.

I’m not saying writing is easy, but it is worth it. Our editor, Aisha McFadden, said it best: writing is like taking a trip to somewhere you’ve never been before.  There are a lot of curves and turns, but you end up exactly where you want to be.

Write. Write. Write.
